There are certain things that you want to do to have a better Google ranking. The problem is that SEO is always changing because Google is always rolling out new updates. So once you think you finally figure it out and everything is going good, it all changes again.
In this blog I will show you 6 tips to rank higher on Google
The main thing to remember here is that you want to improve your Google rankings so you can generate more organic traffic to your page or offers, but without getting penalized. In order to do that you need to understand the new SEO rules and learn how to optimize for both bots and humans.
Let’s go over 6 tips to help you rank higher on Google so you can better optimize your site for better rankings.
TIP#1: Check Your Sites Foundation
Find Out Your Current Keyword Rank
You can use this tool to check how your site is currently ranking. Just type in the keyword that you are trying to rank for on that page and then type in the URL. Click “Go” to see the results.
Check Your Site Speed
One of Google’s major ranking factors is the speed of your site. If you have a site that loads in 1-2 seconds you should have any worries. However, if your site has slower loading speeds such at 4-5 seconds or higher then you have a much slimmer chance at ranking high in search results and it can hurt your sales to.
You can check your site speed with a few different tools. I’ll give you two below that I use the most. For others, you can search Google.
Page Speed Insights – [ great tool, also give you ways to help fix your problems]
Pingdom: https://tools.pingdom.com [this tool will show your page performance grade, page load speed, and page size]
Check Your Sites Health
Pixelgrove – [this Google tool will let you know if your site is deindexed, penalized, or sandboxed] If you notice a sudden drop in traffic this could be due to poor site health. I just launched a site recently and it showed as Penalized or Sandboxed and I have no clue why. So this is a tool you should use often.
Check Your Domain’s Age
One of the major factors search engines use to rank a domain is the age of the domain. Use this domain age tool to find the age of any domain, including your competitors or URLs you might want to purchase. Older domains may get a slight edge in rankings. The Domain Age Checker also tells you when the domain was first found by the Wayback Machine.

TIP#2: Use Google Analytics
How Much Organic Traffic Do You Get?
If you’re new to Google Analytics and have never used in on a site before, here is a great up to date Google Analytics Tutorials beginner video to get your going.
It’s important to track your organic traffic to see where they’re coming from and what they are checking out the most, so you can see what parts of your site are optimized and which parts need work. You can also key in on which keywords are converting on your site as well.
Certain keywords attract certain people. So you want to make sure that you are attracting people who want to buy, if you are selling that is, and not people that are just looking for free information.
Here is a few example of keywords you wouldn’t want to target if you are trying to sell something.
- free ebook
- free training
- how to install Windows
Anything that can be found for free by searching google is not something you would want to target for.
So it’s best to target words such as: (note* some words below are for personal humor 🙂
- buy ebook on Internet Marketing
- best WordPress training
- buy done-for-you marketing products
- good deal on some pizza
- purchase a clever gizmo
- order a guru template
- coupon for selling my Lambo
Tracking is a big key to successful marketing and if you want to rank high you have to make sure you know what your site is doing at any given time. I would suggest setting up Google Webmaster Tools with your Google Analytics. Here’s a great Video that shows you how to do that.
TIP#3: Link Building
Using spammy links or bought links won’t work with Google anymore like it did in the old days, so do yourself a favor and forget about it. This will get you penalized and really hurt your rankings.
As Matt Cutts once said, “Your links should not just look natural, they should be natural.” Links are important to have, but quality backlinks are more important.
Another thing you should be really trying to do is build an ideal audience to your site, so that others who have sites similar to yours will want to link back to it. This in-turn will give you natural backlinks that can really boost you up in the ranks.
You want to design each post to go viral if possible, where you can get lots of quality comments on your recent post. Post your links on social media to build engagement and try and develop associations with partner sites, so that you can get mentions. You might even consider doing some guest posting, to get the word around about your site.
You also want to make sure your links are good link so you can analyze them by using a tool such as Majestic
Find out how all the websites on the internet link to each other with the largest Link Intelligence database on the planet. No other site or search engine gives you as much detailed information about how the fabric of the web is knitted together.
Keep in mind that unhealthy links can hurt your site so you want to find them and remove them. An easy way to do this is to use a tool like Monitor Backlinks:
If you find sites linking to you that are causing you to have an unhealthy site just contact the site owner and have them remove the link, I’m sure they will understand. If fact if you tell them the cause they may want to look at their own site as well that may be causing the whole problem so they can get better rankings as well. Hell…you never know you might even pick them up as a customer for helping them do this.
You can also use the Disavow links tool in Google Webmaster Tools, but keep in mind that getting rid of the links pointing to your site altogether is a much better fix.
If you don’t have time or can’t do it yourself why not have professionals Agency help you with this matter by using Backlinkfy
TIP#4: Use The Google Keywords Planner
When writing an article or doing a blog post it’s good practice to head over to the Google Keyword Planer Tool and do some research first. If you don’t have an account, go ahead and create one it’s free.
You’ll need to find the keywords that others are searching for in relations to what you want to write about. That way you can target that audience so they can find your site easier. Once in the keyword planner tool, just use the “Search for new keywords using a phrase, website or category” type in your primary keyword that you want to write about and hit “Get ideas”.
So what you’re looking for is how many times a certain keyword gets searched per month. This will help you hone in on your target audience by knowing what they want to know about. Using this information can now help you write better Headlines and content for your articles or blogs so you can rank well in Google’s search results. It’s also a good idea to study audience demographics so that you can know who to target most when you’re doing PPC marketing to help your rankings as well.
TIP#5: Create Really Good Content
This step might be pretty simple, but many fail at this miserably. What most people think they can do is just copy PLR articles and paste them on their site and expect to rank high on Google. Although a lot of these articles are pretty well written you have to image how many others out there have done the same exact thing with the same exact articles before you.
Don’t be Lazy! Do you own articles and blogs from scratch, if you can’t think of anything to write and you want to use PLR, make sure you totally re-write them in your own words. Or in the best case scenario, hire someone on fiverr or guru or some other platform similar that can write them for you.
Use Winning Headlines To Draw Attention
If you use numbers in your headlines you will see a huge performance boost in your articles or blogs getting read. Take this page for instance, it also has a number in the headline 🙂 and you’re here reading it right? So as you can see they work wonders.
Of course, it also has to be something someone is searching for as well and the content has to be something of value to the reader to keep them reading.
Here is some example without numbers:
- Secrets to writing a winning headline
- Top things about email marketing you never knew about
- Best tips on how to grow a better garden
Ok…now let’s look at those again with some numbers added:

- 10 best tips on how to grow a better garden
So, which do you think you would click on first?
TIP#6: Use (In-text) Anchor Text Links
If you’re looking to rank for a particular keyword you can use the anchor text as your targeted keyword. I’ve also been told that if you use them mostly above the fold it increases conversion rates. To be on the safe side, it is recommended that you also mix up with generic keywords to avoid penalties.
Here’s is an example below:
If you like to learn more about writing great content, I have a more in-depth post about “3 Ways You Can Reinvent Writing Great Website Content”
So in this case, the linked text would be the anchor link.
You can also use images as links
As you can see through this blog there are lots of images linking to different things. Another trick is to make sure that the “alt tags” on your images have the same name as the titles of your article or blog post.
Here is one of the images I’m using in this blog:
A good way to write good content is to pick a good keyword and then pick 5 or more keywords that are related to the main keyword. Write 5-6 articles or blogs with the related keywords, then go back and write about ‘the main keyword” you choose and then put links throughout that article or blog to link back to your 5-6 other articles or blogs you wrote about.
This will give you good internal link juice. You can do the same with external links. If you have other friends that have a site similar to yours, you can ask them to link to you and you like back to them.
So I hope these tips help your rankings and remember, as long as you play it safe and follow the rules, you can get your site up there in the rankings 🙂
